The Choice Is Ours...
I have often pondered over the reason why we have been given
the power of choice. Perhaps you have too?
In the Book of Genesis at the very beginning of creation we find something
very interesting. The scene is set. God has created the heavens, the earth, the
plants and animals. The He creates Adam.
Genesis 2:9
Authorized (King James) Version (AKJV)
9 And out of the ground made the Lord God to grow every tree that is
pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst
of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil.
And He places two trees in thepleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst
of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil.
garden of Eden. And the question arises: why two specific trees? The
tree of life and the tree of 'knowledge' of good and evil. Note, it was
not the tree of of knowledge or the tree of good and bad BUT the
tree of 'knowledge of good and evil' (discernment). And so the
man, Adam, get's his first choice coupled with a command.
The command from God the Father was clear, plain, simple:
do not eat from the tree 'knowledge of good and evil'. Nothing difficult
about that....
16 And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the
garden thou mayest freely eat: 17 but of the tree of the knowledge of good
and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou
shalt surely die.
Adam may freely eat of ALL the trees yet he gets tempted to eat of the tree
he is not allowed to eat? Why? Did it look nicer than the other trees?
God gave man choice and he had to exercise his free-will choice.
God knew Adam, He knew what was in his heart. And He gave Adam
& Eve the ability to choose. To use their faith. To make a decision.
To go left or right, to choose God or not. Only a loving God will do this.
He did not create us to be machines or robots, but to choose to have
fellowship with Him. Just as with Adam & Eve, God longs to have
fellowship with us, talk with us and be involved with our lives on a
daily basis. By eating from the Tree of Life, Adam would have
made the right choice. Thank God, that Jesus, in the Garden of
Gethsemane made the right choice by choosing to lay down His
life for us.
Have you decided for God yet? Have you exercised your choice
to invite Jesus into your heart and life? Do make that choice today
if you have not done so yet. God is a God of love and compassion.
Choose Jesus. Choose right. Choose life....and commit your every
choice to the Lord for His plan and purpose! Choice is a very
powerful and amazing ability we have been given. Use with
wisdom.
Love in Christ...
